Are you known as a sensitive person? Do you often ignore your gut-feeling only to discover later that you were right? Perhaps, you are usually the one people like to vent to because after talking to you they seem to provide perspective to their situation.
The previously mentioned signs, along with the ones mentioned in this article are some of the signs that you are what’s called an Empath. According to the Oxford dictionary, the definition of empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. Being an Empath is just that. You share the feelings and emotions of those around you. Keep reading below to learn some of the other qualities Empaths possess.
You are a Highly Sensitive Person/ (HSP)
The term Highly Sensitive Person or HSP for short, is making its way to mainstream vocabulary. This is just another way of saying that you are an emotional person. Some people tend to take being emotional as a negative connotation, however I would describe it as in-tune more than anything.
Generally, society feels that being emotional or an HSP are actions of women. This could not be further from the truth. Men are often conditioned not to express their emotions, and whatever emotions exists must be rough and rigid to qualify as being “manly.” Fortunately, many people, millennial specifically, are realizing that personality traits are not gender specific. Emotional people tend to be some of the most passionate people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.
You feel the emotions (and/or pain) of others
Feeling the emotions of others is the very essential of possessing empathic traits. Being an “emotional sponge” often presents physical symptoms. A lot of the time, these symptoms are not your own, they are of those around you.
For example, sometimes as I am preparing for a private reading I temporarily experience a headache as I am channeling my clients energy. Through the years, I have learned that when I experience this, the client that I have is under a lot of mental stress. As an empathic person, it is important to understand what physical symptoms are yours and what belongs to someone else. Furthermore, understanding how to go from experiencing these symptoms long term, to manipulating the energy and ridding it from your spirit is something that is learned through practice.
Cleansing and grounding are two of the most basic and effective ways you can remove the energetic effect of others. Over time you will need more advanced removal methods, but cleansing and ground are a great start and something you can implement right away.
You always know what people need
Being an empath is all about sensing and reading energy, however many people are able to do this without having to put forth significant effort. You have the ability to read and respond to the needs of those around you even if they are unable to express them or not.
You do not need words, you just know, and you react. For this reason, and many others, empaths tend to be great partners, caregivers, therapists. Many people rely on your ability to sense these things to add stability to their lives and make sense of their own emotions. This is one of the traits that make you truly irreplaceable to your family and friends.
